This original and prescient book brings together plastic material as a form of visual inquiry on the coast. It is a must-have and groundbreaking book that explores the detritus and garbage washed up on the shores where the author learned to surf. Despite their ominous presence, these mass-produced items become aesthetic forms within the open theatre of the beach. By photographing everyday products in such an environment, his work drew attention to the problem of plastic pollution in a modern post-industrial consumerist society.
The book was designed by well-known American designer David Carson with contributions by Chris Hines MBE, Dr Richard Thompson, Lena Lencek, Dr Chris Short and Josh Karliner.

David Carson is a renowned graphic designer, author and art director. He is best known for his innovative and experimental graphic design and typography work, which has influenced the look and feel of contemporary design. His work has been featured in numerous publications, including Esquire, Ray Gun and Transworld Skateboarding. Carson has also been credited for popularizing the use of sans-serif typefaces in graphic design. He has served as an art director for major publications such as Ray Gun, Beach Culture and Wired. He is the author of several books, including The End of Print: The Grafik Design of David Carson and Fotografiks: David Carson's Graphic Language.
